Periodontitis

Periodontal disease treatment with a dental laser. Periodontology Bucharest!

What is periodontitis?

Inflamed and bleeding gums, bad breath, and receding gums are common signs of gingivitis and periodontitis. Periodontal disease is caused by bacteria in periodontal pockets that penetrate deep into the gum tissue down to the tooth roots. Routine hygiene, such as brushing and flossing, helps remove bacterial plaque, but if plaque hardens and forms tartar, brushing and flossing will not remove it. The professional skills of dentists or dental hygienists are necessary to regularly perform cleaning treatments to remove this tartar.

parodontologie laser parodontoza București

Periodontitis can lead to tooth loss by destroying the gums and bone around the teeth. The first signs that appear are: bleeding gums, sensitivity during tooth brushing, and gum inflammation.

The main causes that can lead to the appearance of periodontitis are microbial factors, a weakened immune system, and genetic predisposition, which combine with contributing factors such as smoking, poor dental hygiene, diabetes, and not undergoing professional dental cleaning at least twice a year.

The laser is an alternative to classic, surgical treatment. The treatment involves sterilizing periodontal pockets and cleaning them with the laser, killing the bacteria that cause this disease.

The diagnosis of periodontitis is made based on a clinical examination, a panoramic radiograph, and a measurement of periodontal pockets (periodontometry) to establish the exact severity of the case.

Periodontometry is performed using Florida Probe technology – a digital periodontal probe with which the periodontist takes measurements around each tooth. At the end, the patient can view the digital chart and risk graph and receives oral hygiene instructions.

Maintenance and upkeep of the result depend mostly on the patient through understanding, cooperation, and awareness of the diagnosis.

This person must understand post-treatment recommendations, as well as the importance of maintaining proper oral hygiene, a balanced diet, and adhering to regular dental check-ups.

Modern treatment of periodontal disease

Periodontal disease is caused by the accumulation of bacteria around the gums in the form of tartar or plaque, and the only way to stop its progression is by mechanically removing these deposits. This can be done through several methods:

  • conventional method assume a dental scaling meticulously performed both supragingival and subgingival (closed-field curettage). This procedure is followed by periodontal surgery, during which the root surface of the tooth is exposed by temporarily removing the gum, thus making it possible to clean inflamed or necrotic tissue from its surface. This stage is called closed-field curettage. Subsequently, the gum is sutured back, and the patient is administered systemic antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medication. This method is very effective, and if the patient follows all postoperative instructions, the periodontal disease will stop progressing.
  • modern method It represents a minimally invasive treatment that involves the use of LASER light, which has the ability to destroy the bacteria that cause periodontal disease. This type of treatment does not require surgical incisions or gum suturing, thus making the intervention comfortable and healing faster.

The table below presents the two methods with their advantages and disadvantages:

It is important to note that each individual case requires a consultation with a specialist, and it is the doctor who determines the best treatment option based on the complexity of the clinical situation. There are also cases in which the specialist opts for a combination of the two treatment methods.

This type of treatment is a complex one that includes several stages:

  1. In the first stage, the specialist measures the depth of the periodontal pockets around all the teeth to assess the severity of the condition. It is important to note that a gum depth of 1–3 mm is considered normal, while values greater than 4 mm confirm periodontal disease, and those greater than 7 mm require immediate treatment, as they increase the risk of premature tooth loss. This step is called periodontometry and is performed using a graduated instrument.
  2. The actual treatment begins with the application of the LASER to the gum line to remove soft tissues irreversibly affected by the disease. At this level, bacteria begin the destruction of the gum and the underlying bone, which supports the tooth in its correct position in the socket. The LASER can successfully remove the specific bacteria of this disease, as it is specifically designed to target these bacteria. At the same time, the LASER light dissolves the toxins produced by the harmful bacteria, ensuring that the remaining tissue is healthy.
  3. Once the first portion of affected tissue has been removed, the next stage of treatment begins, which requires the use of a small ultrasonic scaler, specially designed to clean tooth roots of tartar and necrotic cement. This type of device uses ultrasound to break down large tartar deposits, and with the help of water, they are removed from under the gum. It is possible that during this stage the dentist may also use manual instruments to ensure all deposits have been removed.
  4. Next, the laser is used again to decontaminate the surface of the roots and teeth of any remaining bacteria. At the same time, small blood clots form at the gum line; due to their high fibrinogen content, these clots promote rapid healing of the periodontium and help the gum reattach to the tooth. Last but not least, these blood clots act as a true barrier against bacteria and new tartar deposits.
  5. In the final stage of treatment, the specialist checks the dental occlusion—that is, how the teeth fit together. If the specialist finds that the teeth are misaligned or that there are non-functional contacts, they will correct the occlusion.
  6. By following all these steps, the best conditions are created for the affected gum and bone to heal, thus stopping the disease's progression. Furthermore, the process of periodontal regeneration will begin in the shortest possible time, reversing the destructive process.

Top 10 Frequently Asked Questions Patients Have About Laser Treatment for Periodontal Disease

Innovation Medical Center - Bucharest uses diode laser technology (multi-wavelength: 450 nm, 650 nm, 810 nm, 940 nm, 1064 nm) or Erbium lasers (e.g., Waterlase 2780 nm), which help eliminate bacteria and infected tissue.

Within the framework of Innovation Medical Center Laser periodontal treatment is a minimally invasive procedure that causes little discomfort; local anesthesia is rarely required, and bleeding is minimal or nonexistent, with no need for sutures.

A typical case requires 1 session, or at most 2 (for chronic conditions), each lasting between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours, depending on the severity of the periodontal disease.

Laser treatment is gentler and more effective than traditional treatment.
Deeply cleans and kills bacteria in the gums.
Reduce inflammation and bleeding.
✔️ It doesn't hurt – usually no anesthesia, incisions, or stitches are needed.
Healing is faster.
The laser helps tissues heal better.
The procedure is precise and does not affect healthy areas.
In short: it's a modern, minimally invasive method that helps gums heal without pain and without a scalpel.
It depends on how severe the gum disease is.
If it is in an early stage (gingivitis or early periodontitis), The laser can be used alone and it has very good effects.
If the disease is more advanced, The laser is combined with other treatments, such as deep scaling (subgingival curettage) and sometimes minor surgical procedures.
The laser helps a lot, but the doctor will decide exactly which combination of treatments is best for you.
Before laser treatment, proper preparation is important:
The doctor will give you a complete gum evaluation, to see how affected they are (measuring periodontal pockets). At Innovation Medical Center, we use state-of-the-art digital periodontometry, Orange Dental: Pa-On (Germany) and Florida Probe (USA). For minimally invasive treatment: No pain and no bleeding.
✔️ It can also be done X-rays, to see the condition of the teeth and bone.
You will do a dental scaling and one Airflow (professional air and powder cleaning), to remove bacterial plaque. Innovation Medical Center uses EMS technology (Switzerland) for minimally invasive professional scaling and air-flow.
All these steps help the laser treatment to have the best possible results.
After treatment, it's important to take care of your oral hygiene so that your gums heal properly:
Brush your teeth with a soft toothbrush, with delicate movements.
Use Doctor-recommended mouthwash, to reduce bacteria.
Clean between your teeth with dental floss or water flosser.
Use the oral probiotic Dentalac to repopulate beneficial bacteria in the oral cavity.
Go to professional inspections and sanitizations every 3–6 months.
In some cases, your doctor may recommend laser maintenance sessions, so you can prevent the illness from returning.
Daily care and regular dental visits are key to maintaining healthy gums.

The costs for laser treatment vary depending on the severity of the condition and the number of sessions. At Innovation Medical Center, prices range from 1000 – 2000 lei per arch.

Laser treatment offers very good results and reduce the risk of the disease recurring.
✔️ If you have a Proper oral hygiene (brush twice a day, interdental cleaning, use the oral probiotic Dentalac, regular check-ups), the results can be long-term.
But if you neglect hygiene, Periodontitis can return, even after treatment.
In short: the treatment helps a lot, but you are the key to maintaining healthy gums long-term.
Yes, laser treatment is not suitable in all situations.
If periodontitis is very advanced, with significant bone loss and severe tooth mobility, it may be necessary to surgical interventions, not just by laser.
✔️ Patients who have Severe generalized pain (e.g., autoimmune diseases, uncontrolled diabetes, severe cardiovascular conditions) may require a different approach, adapted to their overall condition.
🔍 The doctor will decide if laser treatment is right for you, following a comprehensive evaluation.
In short: the laser is a modern and efficient option, but it doesn't apply in all cases. You need a consultation to know what suits you best.
Conclusion
Laser treatment for periodontitis is a modern option that offers many advantages over traditional methods:
this is minimally invasive
Removes bacteria in depth,
It is painless,
Does not involve a scalpel or stitches,
Healing is faster.
However, for good and lasting results:
🔎 you need a careful evaluation,
🦷 you must strictly adhere to oral hygiene at home,
💰 The cost is higher than traditional treatments, but patients say it's worth it due to the long-term comfort and effectiveness.

Impostors. I don't recommend. Very good at marketing until you get there. The clinic looks okay, but the first red flag is that... you're the only patient in the clinic. Then they sell you stories at exaggerated prices, saying you need to treat all your teeth, even though that's not what you asked for or need.
Your response is just as „personalized” as the treatment plans offered.
I am not publishing my real name precisely because you have already demonstrated in another review that you have no qualms about publicly disclosing confidential medical details regarding patients’ health issues, diagnoses, or treatments. This is an extremely problematic practice from the perspective of medical confidentiality.
I hope you never find yourself in a situation where anyone with internet access can find out details about your medical issues.
The statement „you are not in our database” does not change the experience at all.
Avoid this!

I have an older problem, for 5 years, with my TMJ, severe pain, dizziness, clicking, I wore braces for almost 2 years, I also underwent osteopathy techniques, I wore night guards, but they didn't help me much. Dr. Anca Adam is an exceptional doctor, very passionate and dedicated, skilled in meeting patient needs, very empathetic, and always having a kind word, a wonderful person to whom I want to express my deep gratitude for everything she has done and continues to do for me. May God give her good health and strength to continue her work! With much love, Nicoleta Mozaceanu.🙏🙏

My problem was as follows: within a year, my jaw locked five times – once when I yawned and my mouth got stuck open, and the other times after I fell asleep. Obviously, I panicked and didn't know the cause. Dentists recommended I wear a retainer to reposition my jaw for about 8 months, then a splint to straighten my teeth for 2–3 years. This would have been the classic solution for my problem.

Fortunately, I reached Innovation Medical clinic, where I had the good fortune to meet Dr. Anca Adam. From the very first session, she gave me hope and confidence, finding a quick and effective solution. An extraordinary doctor and person, with patience, empathy, and professionalism.

After the first laser treatment session, I felt a noticeable improvement, and after a few more sessions, I can sleep peacefully, without stress and without the fear of waking up with my jaw locked. Additionally, I discovered that the laser used is also very effective for other conditions—a canker sore that normally took two weeks to heal disappeared completely after just one session.

"I wholeheartedly recommend this clinic and Dr. Anca Adam, because she offers not only treatment, but also reassurance and peace of mind to her patients."”

Trigeminal neuralgia... nothing is more painful... And when the pain doesn't respond to anything, despair sets in... But, as God loves me, he put Innovation Medical Center in my path... And the laser treatment... and an angel... Dr. Anca... young, empathetic, patient, passionate about what she does... and I could add many more beautiful words about her... Because, thanks to the professional way she treated me, I can now sleep at night... It seems almost incredible to me that I'm no longer woken up by that unbearable pain, which exploded in my head and jaw... but it's true... I sleep, pain-free, all night... And that's not a small thing... and it's not a small thing that my joy of living has returned, because, for the most part, my right trigeminal nerve has calmed down... I am sharing my experience with the treatment at Innovation Medical Center to bring a little hope to those who are struggling with trigeminal neuralgia and who, like me, have gone through many treatments, some with no results, others with temporary results. Thank you to everyone at Innovation Medical Center for your professionalism, kindness, the warmth with which I am greeted, the pleasant atmosphere, and the responsibility towards patients. Because, unfortunately, for many doctors, the sick have become clients. Thank you Innovation Medical Center because, for you, the sick person is a patient and is treated with great care and compassion.

A top-notch team—and then some—specifically referring to the medical team that treated me: Dr. Thomas Mendel, Dr. Nur, and the nurse (I don’t know your name, but you were very kind). I want to thank you because, first and foremost, you are people before you are doctors. You have no idea what a rare quality that is, so hard to find these days! After a procedure that I would describe as very difficult, 24 hours later I felt as if I hadn’t gone through any procedure at all. Now I hope my body will do the rest, continuing the work you’ve done—which, by the way, is five-star! I sincerely wish you good health and hope you never change your approach to work or your empathy toward patients. This country needs doctors like you!
